WELCOME

A small group of Bellingham Covenant Church people began together in the summer of 2019 to explore the role followers of Jesus have in the care of creation. The group formed a team and together has been learning ways in which the Christian community can better respond to the call of God to care for creation. Conversations with church leaders led to classes and discussions that have introduced the subject of creation care to the broader BCC community.

The team has sponsored educational opportunities for the congregation including:

  • Visits to nearby ministries north and south of the US/Canada border

  • Book discussions

  • Movie discussions

  • Life Together classes

  • Sermons and guest speakers

  • Presentations by organizations advancing creation care

It has been an exciting journey to delve more deeply into the Biblical foundations for the care of creation. And to become aware of some wonderful resources and people that God has raised up and guided into this calling. It has included the discovery of significant resources in our own community and area as well as people around the world who are helping the church discover afresh the teaching and perspectives of the Scriptures on creation and our responsibility to care for it.

Recently, the Creation Care Team has been discussing how we think about and understand the BCC property from a Creation Care perspective. We welcome and hope to engage a widening circle of people in this discussion as we work to become increasingly informed and faithful stewards of our property.

HOW BCC PARTNERS WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS

  • We serve alongside other organizations/individuals in the community

  • We serve low-income or marginalized populations

  • We serve/help to restore non-human creation

  • We give hands-on service opportunity to a broad sector of the

    congregation, with special attention to children and youth engagement

  • We provide a variety of opportunities that bring attention to the breadth of creation care.

  • We serve within the church’s watershed

  • We’re always on the lookout for organizations where congregants can volunteer as individuals.
