LIFE MOTTO

Más café, por favor.

ABOUT ME

The first 18 years of my life I grew up in a tiny town in southwest Washington, which probably explains why I’ve spent much of the rest of my life studying other languages, living in other countries and spending time with folks from other cultures.

Seeing Christ at work in the lives of people around the world is an incredible blessing.  I’m lucky to be married to Joelle, who shares that passion, and to have four kids who do amazingly well on long plane trips.

INTERESTS

I’m fascinated by the ways in which God is revealed in and through different cultures.  I also love spending time with my family, being outdoors and learning about languages (including English).

FAVORITE MUSIC

U2, Future of Forestry, The Gray Havens, Johnnyswim

FAVORITE MOVIES

Napoleon Dynamite, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Lord of the Rings trilogy

 FAVORITE TV

Original Star Trek.  As in Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Bones, etc.  What a hoot.

 FAVORITE BOOKS

Basically anything by Tolkien, C.S. Lewis or Tim Keller.  I also have a soft spot for both history and survival stories.

I’D LIKE TO MEET

Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Ernest Shackleton--two leaders who faced unimaginable challenges and yet stood firm and did what they had to do.

SUPERHERO POWER

I would love to have the power of speed reading.  That’s a superhero power, isn’t it?  Oh, and bo-staff skills.
